THE GRAND DADDY TO HONOR A WELL KNOWN LOCAL BUSINESSMAN

By: Ron Szczerba

Fonda, NY – This evening Wednesday, August 15 at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway, Tom & Sharon Spencer and McDonald’s will present the “Grand Daddy” Sportsman 602 Crate Engine World Championship. The race will be 50-laps in length paying $2,000 to win!

Also on the card are the 358 modifieds who will do battle for 40-laps at the “Track of Champions” with the winner taking home a $2,000 top prize! Time trials start at 7pm, with racing at 7:30 p.m.

Last year the “Grand Daddy” event was one by Fonda Speedway regular Chad Edwards driving the Tom & Sharon Spencer owned #37 car.

This year’s event will also be known as the “Brian Hanaburgh Memorial Race”. Hanaburgh was a great friend to the Fonda Speedway over the years as he sponsored the annual McDonald’s Weekend for many years along with other events during the racing season. Hanaburgh sadly passed away on May 23, 2018.

Hanaburgh was the franchise owner of a total of eight local McDonald’s restaurants including the restaurant in Fonda, NY where the first Fonda Speedway Museum was setup with award winning journalists Ed & Betty Biittig taking care of the museum for Hanaburgh and for the Fonda Speedway.

Hanaburgh was also an avid sports car racer, builder, and collector.

So come out to the Fonda Speedway tonight to see a great night of racing action and honor someone who loved racing and the Fonda Speedway as much as you and I do, Mr. Brian Hanaburgh! Special thanks to Tom & Sharon Spencer and McDonald’s for putting this event on.
